Paul Ryan

Paul Ryan, at first reading, I was surprised where we were going, video tai chi with a camera on his head. Video meditation, alpha states with his negative videos, feeling the Bush administration vibrations on the eve of the Iraq invasion, thru motion of tidal waves or ducks feeding one another, with philosophical overtones. Working with Marshall McLuhan must have been a wonderful opportunity, a once in a life time opportunity. Clearly Ryan’s monastic training in the seminary introduced him to the alpha state of conscience and meditation. In today’s climate I am not sure how many of our fellow graduates have explored T.M., Sufism or other types of alpha soothing techniques. Again this type of viewing takes many years of practice to really see what you are looking for. Or what you are not looking, you are ready to receive a message or lack of or absence of a message to achieve the alpha state. Ryan’s work at Savannah College was inspiring. The sustainability concept in communication and political theatre may be an important tool, to break down the pieces of these modular predictable political encampments. To see what is behind the message, to dice it and quarter it, to look underneath it, to realize it. Paul approach to Semiotics of signs and signals, again is a study in it self. I believe it would take a dear long time to really see, what is there and maybe why it is there.
